August 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Bengaluru:

A 19-year-old student, believed to be three months pregnant, died of excessive bleeding at Veeragollahalli in Chickballapur taluk after her boyfriend allegedly gave her a soft drink laced with folk medicine to induce abortion. She was heading to college on Monday when she started bleeding and collapsed.

Passersby found her lying unconscious by the roadside in Chikkaballapura and took her to a private hospital. She was later shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru where she passed away on Tuesday. Her parents and relatives alleged that she was in a relationship with a married man, Naresh, and that she was pregnant. They staged a protest in front of Naresh’s house, demanding his arrest. The Chickaballapur police are trying to trace Naresh.
