A proportionate system of assessment of energy consumption will be done in respect of low-tension consumers to give effect to the revised power tariff.
Of the two crore LT consumers the category of domestic consumers accounts of 1.6 crore.
Following the tariff revision order issued by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC), the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has sent a circular to its distribution circles all over the State for calculating the electricity charges.
The working instructions, issued through the circular of March 31, spell out the methodology of calculating consumption charges according to the revised rates. No special readings have been proposed for low tension consumers.
Time gap
Given the fact that the revised tariff came into force on April 1, one has to keep in mind the time gap until the date on which meter reading is done.
The number of days thus arrived at will have to be divided by the total number of days [normally 60 days] since the previous meter reading was carried out. The quotient will be multiplied by the figure of consumption recorded on the day of the latest meter reading.
For example, if a consumer has consumed 380 units from February 6 to April 6, the number of units consumed since April 1 would be 38. The remaining 342 units will be calculated as per old rates.
The circular states that while 100 per cent assessment is to be made, complaints from consumers should be avoided regarding assessment of the proportionate consumption.
Regarding high tension (HT) connections, directions have been given by the Corporation for taking special meter readings on April 1, the circular added.
