Police have recovered pamphlets of Tamilar Viduthalai Padai in front of Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s residence at Managiri near here on Tuesday and tightened security on the eve of his two-day visit to Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency.
Police said that four two-page pamphlets decrying “anti-people policies” of the Congress-led UPA government and opposing corporate retail majors were found in front of the Union Minister’s residence.
As similar pamphlets were found at Ulaganeri in Madurai district where police had recovered a pipe bomb on February 11, the district police stepped up security to the Union Minister, police said.
Police also launched an investigation as how the pamphlets landed in front of the Union Minister’s house and who had dropped them there, highly-placed sources said. According to the tour programme, Mr. Chidambaram is scheduled to address a series of functions at Kottaiyur, Vallal Azhagappa Nagar in Sankarapuram panchayat.
After a brief halt at Managiri in the afternoon, he would proceed to Singampunari, Sivaganga and Kallal and return to Managiri for night stay. He would leave for Chennai on Thursday.
