The first major violation of the model code of conduct was reported in Tirunelveli district on Tuesday. H. Vijayakumar, Project Director of DRDA, was removed for violating the code by making an antedate entry in three files seeking approval of the Collector to sanction works worth about Rs. 300 crore.

Tirunelveli Collector M. Karunakaran said Mr. Vijayakumar had sent the files seeking sanction. Knowing fully that the Election Commission’s clearance was required for any development work after the notification, he put up the files antedated.
