Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Wednesday announced pongal incentive for 1,37,800 State transport corporation employees who will get Rs. 7.70 crore as performance payout.

Employees will be paid incentives ranging from Rs. 85 to Rs. 625 based on the number of days they had worked last year, a State government release said.

The announcement comes against the background of a flash strike seeking wage revision by State transport employees last December, which was called off later. The State later constituted a committee to hold talks with them.

The Chief Minister has also ordered similar incentive for 37,693 ‘C’ and ‘D’ categroy employees of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.

They will be paid Rs. 350 each and this would entail an expenditure of Rs. 1.31 crore to the corporation.
