Health officials in Prakasam district are fully prepared to deal with viral fever cases, including swine flu, which is caused by H1N1 flu virus, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. J. Yasmin has said.
“Government hospitals are fully geared up to treat the flu patients and there is no need to be panic,” she told the media here on Thursday. “We have enough stocks of Tamiflu to treat patients with symptoms of swine flu ,” she explained.
Referring to one Siva Kumar (35) who was admitted to the RIMS with suspected symptoms of swine flu, Dr. Yasmin said that his heath condition was getting better as the treatment was started early. “Apart from throat swab, we have sent nasal swab of the patient to the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM), Hyderabad, for a detailed examination,” she added.
With the requests for surgical masks pouring in from schools , Dr.Yasmin said that It was not necessary for one and all to wear masks.
Children with flu symptoms should be asked to stay back at home and taken to hospital immediately for treatment, she added.
