The Sullivan Memorial at Kannerimukku near Kotagiri has been closed for renovation, according to The Nilgiris Collector and president of the Sullivan Memorial Committee P.Sankar. He said here on Sunday that it would be reopened as early as possible.

Earlier, Mr. Sankar presided over a meeting of the Sullivan Memorial Committee at Kannerimukku.

Discussions relating to the upgradation of the Memorial were held.

Mr.Sankar and the Committee members including Srinivas R.Reddy, Project Director, Hill Area Development Programme, Geetha Srinivasan, convenor, Indian National Trust for Art, Culture and Heritage, M.Alwas, secretary, Nilgiri Adivasis Welfare Association and Yasmin Z.Kothavala, secretary, Kotagiri Citizens Federation, interacted with the villagers to get their views on the development of the Memorial.

The maintenance of the Memorial has been taken over by the district administration from the Nilgiri Documentation Centre, a non-governmental organisation, which was running it for the past few years. The organisation had about three months ago expressed its desire to move out.
