Several parts of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai went without power for more than three hours after sudden downpour coupled with strong winds lashed the twin towns and various parts of the district on Saturday evening.
The 40-minute-long sharp showers that started at 5 p.m. triggered puddles in several places and hampered the last-minute electioneering a lot.
As the sudden downpour coupled with strong winds uprooted trees at several parts of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai,
Tangedco stopped power supply in these areas in a bid to avert tragedies and fire accidents.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel were pressed into service to clear the uprooted trees.
