Stunt shows mark symposium

Stunts by students on two-wheelers, and cars marked a symposium organised by the Mechanical Engineering Department of SSM College of Engineering here recently.

The stunts were performed by the students of the Motorcycle Club.

The two-wheeler riders performed ‘wheeling’ (lifting of the front of the motor cycle off the ground by means of either power or use of clutch), ‘circle wheeling’ (riding within a circle); ‘acrobatic’ (hyper spin kneeling on the right side of the two-wheeler with the vehicle lying on the ground, and feathering the gas to spin around on the ground), ‘switch back’ (performed with the body facing the rear of the motor cycle opposite the direction of travel) and ‘watch tower’ (performed with the rider standing on the motor cycle saddle).

The car stunt show was performed by the student participants of other colleges.

The symposium was inaugurated by R. Sasikumar, member, Research and Development, TVS Motor Company, Hosur.

He asked students to concentrate on quality education rather quantity education. He urged them to have a positive attitude to succeed in their life. He explained the expectations of companies from the fresh graduates.

S. Balamohan, director, Science and Humanities of the college, delivered the key note address.

He called upon the students to be a voracious reader to achieve success in life.

J. Maheswaran, principal of the college, in his presidential address, advised the students to improve their analytical ability by means of questioning techniques on whichever they study theoretically and practically. This practice will help them to improve their technical knowledge, he said.

P.R. Manigandan, Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering of the college, in his felicitation address, advised the students to improve their communication skills.

A souvenir, ‘Mech Beats 2016,’ was released during the symposium. The educational excellence awards were also presented to the students.

Among 200 technical papers received from the students of various colleges, 16 papers would be presented.
