State to get additional 600 mw of power by September 2011

An additional 600 mw of power will be made available to the State by September 2011 when the works on the stage III, an expansion of the Mettur Thermal Power Station, is completed, said C. P Singh, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

After inspecting the erection and construction works of the 600 mw project being carried out at a cost of Rs. 3100.06 crore on the thermal station premises at Mettur on Saturday, Mr. Singh said that he had asked the officials to complete it two months in advance. “Already 47 per cent of works have been completed,” he pointed out.

He further stated that Mettur Thermal Power Station's Stage I (2x 210 mw) and Stage II (2x210) units were having a coal stock for 10 days while the Ennore unit had 20 days of stock, he added.
