DMK’s working president M.K. Stalin on Saturday said the State government is not worried about the Centre imposing Hindi or the introduction of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
Addressing students at a seminar organised by the party’s Central district unit to show the opposition to the BJP government for imposing Hindi and introducing NEET, he said, “This morning, we came across reports that the office of the President has not received the resolution adopted in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly against NEET. What is the State government doing?”
He criticised Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for failing to insist on these issues during his meeting with the Prime Minister. “The CM had convened a Cabinet meeting. They should have discussed about NEET and taken steps to come out with a resolution. Instead, we are hearing reports that the AIADMK Ministers have been asked not to criticise the Centre,” he said.
Questioning why the AIADMK party was afraid of the Centre, he said it was due to the income tax raids, and that they were caught in the clutches of the Centre due to corruption. “The State government is not worried about NEET or imposition of Hindi,” he said.
He clarified that the DMK was not opposing Hindi, but was only against its imposition. “We are opposing the Hindi that is being imposed on us. The Central government has come up with many ways to impose Hindi such as planning to celebrate Teachers Day as Guru Utsav, and bringing in Sanskrit in the new education policy,” he said.
Noting that NEET would affect rural students, he observed that it would prevent medical aspirants in rural areas.
