MADURAI

Cadres of the DMK and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) organised separate protests here on Sunday, deploring the suicide of S. Anitha (17), the Dalit girl from Ariyalur district who could not join MBBS course owing to her poor score in NEET despite having scored 98% in her Class XII State Board examinations.

Madurai Central constituency MLA P.T.R.P. Thiagarajan, who led the protest by the DMK, blamed the State government for “succumbing to the pressure from the BJP-led government at the Centre for its own survival, but failing to get an exemption for NEET”.

Stating that NEET was one among the several attacks by the Central government on the autonomy of the State government, he said his party would intensify the struggle until all such policies were revoked.
