Stall KKNPP expansion plan, Jayalalithaa urged

June 19, 2014 01:47 am | Updated 01:47 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

The People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) has urged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to stall the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project’s plan to construct four more reactors to take the total number to six.

In a letter to the Chief Minister on Wednesday, PMANE coordinator S.P. Udayakumar said the former Kerala Chief Minister, V.S. Achuthananthan, at one of his meetings with him in May last, had said he opposed the nuclear project and the proposed neutrino project in Theni as “it would affect the Idukki and Mullaperiyar reservoirs and the people living there.”

Considering the safety of the people living in southern Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister should take a decision, he said.
