Stalin to meet DMK cadre

Focus will be on strengthening the organisation and keeping it poll-ready

DMK working president M.K. Stalin will meet party cadre and leaders, ranging from party’s district secretaries to the local functionaries, to strengthen the organisation and thrash out various issues at the ground level.

A press release from the DMK headquarters said that Mr. Stalin would be meeting the office-bearers from February 1 to March 22 at Anna Arivalayam.

The release said that Mr. Stalin would hold discussions mainly on ways to improve the functioning of the party.

Emerging scenario

The meetings had been scheduled in the backdrop of the sacking of several party functionaries following the R.K. Nagar bypoll debacle and the announcement of Tamil actors Rajinikath and Kamal Haasan about entering politics.

The DMK leader recently asked his party cadre to be ready for elections in the near future.

Speaking at the wedding of a party functionary last week, Mr. Stalin said the AIADMK government would fall the day after the High Court decided on a batch of petitions regarding the floor test and the disqualification of 18 MLAs.

A fresh approach

With the 2G verdict too going in favour of A. Raja and Kanimozhi, the meetings assume significance as the cadre are likely to be told to take the message across assertively to the party’s core constituency and voters across the State.

The entry of Mr. Rajinikanth into politics and the impending entry of Mr. Kamal Haasan, who plans to tour the State from February 21, has caused some worry in the State’s political circles.

The meetings in the DMK spread over a two-month period are likely to focus on how to meet the challenge from the two actors.
