A resolution cancelling the allotment of a Chennai Corporation building in Kolathur that is being used as MLA's office by DMK leader M.K.Stalin is to be placed before the civic body's Council.
The 200-member council, which has 168 AIADMK members, is likely to discuss the issue at its meeting on Thursday. Sources in the Corporation said since the Council meeting scheduled on Wednesday would adjourn after making obituary references, another meeting would be convened on Thursday.
A government order cancelling the allotment of the building, located on the campus of a Chennai School in Jawahar Nagar, was issued on November 8.
The reason cited in the GO was that the building was originally meant for “educational purpose.”
On December 16, the Corporation Standing committee gave its approval for cancellation of the allotment.
The building measuring 1,150 sq ft was allotted by the previous Corporation Council and a resolution to this effect was passed on June 29.
Mr. Stalin inaugurated the MLA's office building on July 16 following his victory against Mayor Saidai.S.Duraisamy in the Kolathur constituency.
The building had housed an office of the Scouts and Guides movement till 2001 after which it remained vacant.
The ground measuring 1.11 acre was being used as a camp site by the Scouts and Guide movement. The office of the Scout and Guide movement was shifted to a vacant primary school building, with built-up area of 4,500 sq ft, on the same premises.
After an office-bearer of a residential association of Jawahar Nagar objected to the use of the building as MLA office, the then Mayor M. Subramanian sought the opinion of the Council again on August 29. The council, in which DMK had an overwhelming majority, had passed a special resolution in support of the MLA office continuing to be in the same building.
