Sankar, Special Sub-Inspector of Police (SSI) attached to Thattaparai police station, has been placed under suspension on the charges of producing a fake certificate and forging the signature of an Inspector, sources said here on Tuesday.

The SSI was alleged to have forged the signature of the Sipcot Inspector of Police in the verification certificate, which was required by the Regional Transport Office here to check the antecedents of an applicant.

Sankar allegedly produced the fake certificate in connivance with one David, who managed to get a badge, which ensured authorisation to drive transport vehicles, and a duplicate driving licence, from the transport office.

Sources said when an enquiry was conducted with the Sipcot Inspector regarding the authenticity of his signature, he said it was not his signature which was in the verification certificate. Subsequently, District Crime Branch police registered a case, and investigations revealed that the SSI produced the fake certificate, sources added.
