An Alternative Dispute Redressal (ADR) Centre, Fast Track Mahila court and legal care and support centre for Kottaiyur village were inaugurated by Justice C.S. Karnan, Judge, Madras High Court at the combined court buildings complex here on Monday.

Speaking at the function, Justice Mr. Karnan said that the ADR centre would help render speedy justice to those who would otherwise have to wait for years to settle disputes. “Civil disputes, marital disputes and money suits take 25 and 30 years to settle, and in the process the litigants lose their time, money and peace of mind. Through ADR, the disputes could be resolved quickly and amicably,” he said.

“The Fast Track Mahila court will facilitate speedy justice to women. Provisions have been made for a spacious waiting area and separate counselling halls,” he added.

G. Kumaresan, a Public Works Department official, said that the building housing the ADR centre was constructed on an outlay of Rs. 93.20 lakh.

R. Tharani, Principal District and Sessions Judge; John R.D. Santosham, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srivilliputtur; S. Maheswaran, Superintendent of Police; V. Rajaraman, Collector; T. Kadiresan, president, Bar Association, Srivilliputtur; and S. Thirumalaiappan, secretary; spoke.

Legal care centre

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines, Mr. Karnan said that the Kottaiyur village legal care centre was a first of its kind for Virudhunagar district. It would help solve petty cases and also guide villagers on grievance redressal.

“The centre will conduct legal camps in the village every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More legal care centres will be opened across the district to bring down number of pending cases,” he said.

“There is a proposal to shift the Rajapalayam and Sivakasi courts, which are functioning on rented premises, to combined court buildings,” he added.
