The mortal remains of Sri Ranga Ramanuja Maha Desikan of Srirangam Srimad Andavan Ashramam were laid to rest on the Ashram’s premises in Srirangam on Tuesday.

A large number of followers and devotees of the Srimad Andavan Swamigal from various parts of the country converged on the ashram, situated along the banks of the Coleroon, and paid their last respects to the 11th pontiff of the Srirangam ‘Periyashramam’.

Verses from the Rig, Yajur and Sama Vedas, besides those from the ‘Divya Prabhandham’ were recited and ‘Thirumanjanam’ was performed. Temple honours came from important shrines including the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Tirupati, Kancheepuram and Sri Mushnam. Later, the mortal remains were placed in a bamboo basket and laid to rest in a ‘Brindavanam’ in the ashram. Articles used by the Swamigal were also placed inside the pit and covered with salt and sand.

The 46th pontiff of Sri Ahobila Mutt, Sri Ranganatha Yatheendra Mahadesikan, remained at the ashram for the entire duration of the rituals. Sri Shendalangaara Sampathkumara Ramanuja Jeeyar of Mannargudi, Swami Nithyananda were present.
