Following the death of a five-year-old boy at South Alagapuram Colony and more children suffering from fever, a special medical camp was held in the area here on Saturday.
Recently, the boy died of fever and residents complain of spread of mysterious fever in the area.
Five more children were found to be suffering from fever. Hence, a special medical camp was held on Saturday.
Prior to the camp, nurses conducted door-to-door survey to identify people who were suffering from fever. Also, anti-dengue measures like fogging, pouring anti-repellents in water storage containers and cleaning of piled up garbage were undertaken in the area.
On Saturday, about 350 people were screened by a team of doctors and were also given ‘nilavembu kashayam’. Three were found to be suffering from cough and fever and they were provided treatment. Health officials said that there was no outbreak of diseases and the persons suffering from fever were provided treatment. They said that anti-dengue operations were carried out in fever-prone areas and asked people to cooperate. Corporation officials said that temporary workers recruited for anti-dengue operations were performing their duty and the process will continue.
Earlier in the day, Additional Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine P. Vadivelan visited the area and held discussions with health officials.
