The Sneha Opportunity Services (SOS), a special school for the differently-abled children, observed the National Day for Mentally Challenged here on Tuesday.
The SOS has on its roll 81 special children drawn not only from Neyveli but also from the surrounding areas. It imparts special education and vocational training among the children, besides providing medical care.
The Neyveli Lignite Corporation is patronising the school.
Speaking on the occasion NLC Chairman-cum-Managing Director B. Surender Mohan said that the parents of these children should treat them as “Gift of God.”
He commended the services rendered by the SOS, its president Swarnakumari Surender Mohan, teachers and vocational trainers.
On the occasion Mr Mohan, on behalf of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation, donated Rs 6 lakh to the SOS for the purchase of a paper-cup manufacturing machine.
Ms. Swarnakumari Surender Mohan thanked the NLC management for its unstinted support for the successful running of the school.
She also gave away prizes to the best performing teachers, vocational trainers and students.
The students presented a cultural event to the appreciation of the audience.
