Speaker P. Dhanapal refused to allow any debate on the actions of Governor Banwarilal Purohit, despite attempts by the DMK members to raise the issue in the State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday. [The DMK has been objecting to Mr. Purohit holding inspections and interacting with the officials].
Comments expunged
DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan (Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni), in his speech on the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the House, made certain remarks, which were immediately expunged by the Chair.
When Leader of the House O. Panneerselvam said that the existing rules did not allow a debate on the Governor in the House, Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin objected to his contention.
DMK members were soon on their feet, urging that Mr. Anbazhagan be allowed to continue with the debate.
The Speaker refused to budge and went on to cite the rules of the Assembly which did not allow any debate on the President and the Governor on the floor of the House.
Mr. Anbazhagan said former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai was for State autonomy and made some other comments which were expunged by the Chair.
