The first round of counselling for admission to MBBS course under the government quota through the Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) in government and self-financing colleges began here on Saturday.
As many as 302 candidates appeared for the counselling for the special category seats. Wards of ex-servicemen, children/grandchildren of freedom fighters, persons with disabilities and meritorious sports persons come under the category. Under the freedom fighter category, S. Shriya of Puducherry, who scored 293 marks in NEET, chose to join MBBS in the government-run Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute.
P.T. Rudra Goud, Joint Convenor of Centac, said that around 302 candidates had been called for counselling under the special and general categories on the first day. The counselling for admission of students under the management quota would be held on Monday.
Candidates admitted in other colleges and those who are not able to produce their mark sheets have to submit an undertaking stating that the originals would be submitted before July 31.
The fees in the form of demand draft should be handed over to the Centac office here as per Supreme Court guidelines since the self-financing colleges may refuse to accept the fees.
