The Collectorate was a hive of activity on Saturday as thousands of unemployed educated youth braving showers, turned up to register their names for the employable skill training to be offered by private companies under a government programme. Selection for the training would be done by nearly 52 companies at a camp to be held in Tiruvarur on November 30.
“The three-day registration for youth from three blocks started on November 25. About 7,000 youth have registered their names,” said M. Chandrasekaran, Collector. Those who have completed class X and Plus Two examinations, and under graduates, post graduates in arts and science and engineering could register. The selected candidates would be absorbed if they had 10th and Plus Two qualifications.
“I came to know about the skill training from newspapers. I have registered my name and hope of getting a job by a private company,” said R. Mahalakshmi, a BBA holder from Vellaiyadambai village in Kodavasal taluk, here on Saturday.
This is not an isolated case. Parimalam of Olayamayudam village in Kodavasal taluk, who had completed her Plus Two in 2007, registered her name. Vijay of Uthani village in Valangaiman taluk registered his ITI qualification. Sathyaseelan of Mannargudi, a post graduate and M.Phil holder, also registered his name.
The rush kept surging till evening. “Such kind of schemes will help youth to get jobs. Even if we are qualified, rigorous training paves the way for employment,” said S. Venkatrajulu, an educationist.
The employable skill training scheme for unemployed educated youth was announced by the State government on August 15, 2010 and Rs. 50 crore was allotted for the purpose.
The age group for registration is between 18 and 35. Those who have not registered could attend the camp on November 30, the Collector said.
Nagapattinam
The pre-registration camp for the government job fair at the E.G.S.Pillay College of Engineering and Technology in Nagapattinam has been extended by a day till Sunday. The camp commenced on Thursday and was slated to be concluded on Saturday. With the mounting registrations and parental request, Collector C. Munianathan ordered the extension.
