Changes in new S.Rly timetable

Six new premium trains are being introduced from Chennai and via Southern Railway jurisdiction. In addition, 10 new express trains and four passenger trains are being introduced.

Introduction of six new premium trains, 10 new express trains and speeding up of 31 trains ranging from a saving of 10 minutes to 160 minutes of travelling time, forms part of the salient features of the Southern Railway time table which is to come into effect from September 1.

The time table normally comes into effect from July 1 every year. Owing to the announcements by the new Government made in the Railway budget, the release of railway time table was deferred by two months this time. Copies of the time table are expected to be made available to the public across the counters shortly.

In the new time table, six new premium trains are being introduced from Chennai and via Southern Railway jurisdiction. In addition, 10 new express trains and four passenger trains are being introduced.

Among the notable changes to come into effect, Train No 12676 – Kovai express- will depart from Coimbatore at 2.55 p.m. instead of 2.20 p.m. and it will arrive Chennai Central at 10.25 p.m. instead of 9.45 p.m. Train number 16526 Bangalore – Kanyakumari express will depart at 8 p.m. instead of 9.40 p.m. and it would reach Kanyakumari at 3.15 p.m. the next day instead of 06.05 p.m.

As many as 31 trains are being speeded up thus saving a travelling time ranging from 10 minutes to 160 minutes.

Arrival timings of 26 trains at Chennai Central and departure timings of 15 trains are being revised. While as many as 12 trains will depart five minutes to 15 minutes later than the present departure timings, three trains namely, Chennai Central – Mangalore, Chennai Central – Mysore and Chennai Central – Palani trains will depart ten to 30 minutes earlier than the present departure timings.

Similarly, departure and arrival of six trains at Chennai Egmore also stands revised with effect from September 1. When contacted, railway officials said that revised timings could be availed from railway enquiry telephone numbers and also from SR’s website.
