The situation at Nanjanad where two persons were killed in a group clash on February 16 is normal, according to police sources. A long standing dispute between two groups over a temple issue had led to the clash.
Speaking to The Hindu here on Sunday, police sources said the situation was more or less normal and conducive for withdrawal of some of the police personnel. Immediately after the incident about 400 personnel had been rushed to the village. As the situation began to improve, the personnel were gradually withdrawn and now there were around 270 of them. The strength would be brought down further and only a minimum would be retained there.
Bandobust would be provided only in accordance with the rules. Priority would now be given to election and tourism-related matters, the sources said.
