Shopkeepers told not to overcharge for water bottles

August 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:30 am IST - VELLORE:

Officials of the Vellore Corporation on Wednesday inspected shops at the New Bus Stand following complaints of water bottles being sold at higher rates.

An official of the local body said the issue of shops at the New Bus Stand overcharging customers for water bottles was put forward during the law and order meeting. Another complaint that bottles were sold beyond the expiry date was also raised.

Following this, a team of officials inspected the New Bus Stand. “We told shopkeepers that they should not overcharge for water bottles. We also checked the goods in the shops. Some of the stocked water bottles and snacks packets were sold beyond the expiry date. As a preliminary measure, we have created awareness among the shopkeepers not to indulge in such practices,” the official said.
