It was dream come true for a 66-year-old K. Barnabas, representing Tuticorin Rifle club, who won silver at the 41st Tamil Nadu State Shooting Championship 2015 held in Madurai, recently.
His relentless efforts helped him achieve this feat, Mr. Barnabas told ‘The Hindu’ here on Tuesday. He bagged the silver medal in the 50m range, .22 rifle shooting in the contest of small bore free standard rifle prone for veterans.
He scored 131 points in lying posture to earn this State-level recognition.
Taking pride in the achievement, the shooter said he excelled in the contest, in which a total of 406 shooters competed.
“I developed passion for gun shooting since my adolescent days and am confident of getting a gold next year,” Mr. Barnabas said. K. Vijayavel was the other shooter from the Rifle Club, who brought laurels to Tuticorin after winning the bronze medal in the same event. He scored 111 points.
Among 14 shooters from the Tuticorin Rifle Club, these two hogged the limelight. Madurai City Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav awarded them the medals on Sunday.
