Door-to-door campaign from today to cover left-out children

The second phase of the pulse polio campaign has been launched across various districts in the central region on Sunday. Infants in the age group of 0-5 years will be covered under the one-day campaign.

Speaking after launching the campaign here, Mr. Vaithilingam, Minister for Housing, pointed out that it has been planned to administer polio drops to 2,28,758 infants in Thanjavur district. A total of 6,040 staff, 178 supervisors and 120 medical officers were involved in the exercise, he said.

As many as 1,510 camps have been established in the district of which 1,382 were in rural areas. Apart from the regular medical facilities, camps have been established in places where people gather in large numbers, he said.

District Collector N.Subbaiyan, Mayor Savitri Gopal, and Joint Director of Health Services Meenakshi were present. In Tiruvarur, Food Minister R.Kamaraj administered polio drops to infants at the bus stand. District Collector M.Mathivanan was present.

PUDUKOTTAI: Health Minister C.Vijaya Baskar inaugurated the campaign in Pudukottai district. Mr. Vijaya Baskar said that mobile teams have been set up to administer the drops to children residing in the stone quarries in the district.

In all, 1, 60,000 children would be covered under the programme in the district through 1,315 camps. S.Ganesh, District Collector, said that a door-to-door verification would be conducted from Monday to cover the children left out during the campaign.

PERAMBALUR: Collector Darez Ahamed and Member of Parliament R.P.Marudaraja administered polio drops to children at Fatima Primary School. A total of 48,500 children were immunised through 362 camps.

A total of 1,564 personnel, including 171 health workers, 759 anganwadi workers, five school education workers, and 624 volunteers, took part.

NAGAPATTINAM: K.A.Jayapal, Fisheries Minister, inaugurated the campaign at Kothalatheru town welfare centre here. The Minister said the district was eligible to be declared as polio-free zone, following the intensive campaign. Polio drops were administered to about 1.56 lakh children at 1,027 centres, including 963 booths in rural areas. Eleven mobile camps were organised in places of worships, tourist spots, and railway stations. Door-to-door survey would be conducted for three days to cover children left out during the campaign.

ARIYALUR: Polio drops were administered to 73,696 children in the district through 547 centres. While 502 centres were set up in rural areas, 45 were in urban areas.

Ten centres were set up at various bus stands and one centre was opened at Ariyalur railway station. A total of 2,188 personnel, including 941 anganwadi workers, 118 health staff, and 1,129 volunteers, were involved in the campaign.
