Schools yet to remove ‘promotional’ hoarding

Despite instructions Education Department officials, many schools in the district are yet to remove hoarding that publicise school toppers, and stop distribution of leaflets.

Chief Education Officer S. Shanthi told The Hindu that she had, a few days ago, instructed all head teachers of matriculation schools to comply with the instructions.

“Again they have been asked to stick to the directive that forbid schools from using the photographs of high performing students or their marks for promotional activities,” she said.

She added that schools still found violating the directive would be served with a memo and further action would be initiated.

The Education Department officials clarified that schools should refrain from inserting promotional materials with students’ photographs and marks in newspapers too.
