A class 9 girl staying in the Government Most Backward Classes Welfare Hostel at Anniyur near Gingee allegedly committed suicide by hanging in her room on Monday. Police said the victim Vinitha (14), daughter of Allimuthu, was studying in class 9 in the Anniyur Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
Cook alerts police
Police sources said Vinitha returned to her room at around 10.45 a.m. The hostel cook Mahalakshmi found the girl hanging from a ceiling fan in the room and alerted the police.
The body was sent for post-mortem to the Government Medical College and Hospital. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
