‘Say-no-to-LPG-subsidy’ campaign

January 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - RAMANATHAPURAM:

When people thronged the nationalised banks to link their LPG IDs with bank accounts to get the subsidy for LPG cooking gas cylinders credited in their accounts under the Pahal scheme, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Council member K. Muraleedharan has launched a campaign to influence the affluent sections of the society to say no to the subsidy.

After declaring that he would not avail the LPG subsidy, the Rameswaram-based BJP leader has launched the ‘Say-no-to-LPG-subsidy’ campaign by calling up his friends who could afford to forego the subsidy.

During the last one week, he had prevailed upon at least a dozen friends to forego the subsidy. “After I explained the rationale behind the subsidy pattern, my friends had readily agreed not to link their LPG IDs with the bank accounts,” he said.

The subsidy should be availed only by the deserving consumers, he pointed out.

Mr. Muraleedharan who was busy with the party’s ‘missed call’ membership recruitment drive, has taken a brief break last week to step up his ‘new campaign.’

India, which was fighting to make strides in all the spheres could not afford to distribute subsidised LPG cylinders to all sections of the society, he said.
