The expulsion of V.K. Sasikala from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has been revoked.
Accepting her friend's statement that she had disowned her controversial relatives and associates, AIADMK general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday rescinded the action taken against Ms. Sasikala on December 19 last.
In a statement here, Ms. Jayalalithaa said Ms. Sasikala had sent her a letter and issued a press statement with the same import. “I accept the explanation and the disciplinary action initiated against her stands revoked.”
However, the expulsion of her relatives and associates, including M. Natarajan, her nephews V. Bhaskaran, V.N. Sudhagaran and T.T.V. Dinakaran, stands and party workers should not have any truck with them.
The return of Ms. Sasikala to the good books of Ms. Jayalalithaa followed the former's statement on Wednesday last that she had no knowledge that her relatives and others were involved in a “conspiracy” against the Chief Minister. In 1996, shortly after her party's defeat in the Assembly elections, Ms. Jayalalithaa announced that she was snapping ties with her long-time friend, who was staying with her at her Poes Garden residence since 1988. However, she was back in her home some time later.
