Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa’s mother R. Gowri (62), a retired teacher residing at Mudhalur in Sathankulam taluk of Thoothukudi district, has filed an anticipatory bail application in the Madras High Court Bench here in a case registered against her and her family on charges of ill-treating and sexually abusing two domestic aides, both sisters.

Denying the allegations levelled against her in the case, the petitioner stated that the complaint had been lodged only after her daughter Ms. Pushpa was expelled from the AIADMK following a rift with the party leadership. “At present, due to political animosity, such complaints have been pouring in,” she claimed.

“The petitioner submits that she is the permanent resident of Thoothukudi and she is prepared to produce substantial solvent sureties for her release. It is submitted that the petitioner commands high respect in society and she would be put to great hardship in the event of arrest… The petitioner is also an aged lady suffering from various ailments,” her petition read.

In so far as the contents of the complaint were concerned, the petitioner said that it had been lodged by the younger of the two sisters who claimed to have been employed by Ms. Pushpa initially at the latter’s residence in Anna Nagar, Chennai, for a salary of Rs. 3,000 a month in 2011. After four months, Ms. Pushpa shifted to Thoothukudi after being elected as its Mayor.

Hence, the complainant girl was also taken along to Thoothukudi where she was allegedly abused sexually by the MP, her husband and their son.

She had also accused the MP’s mother of abusing and ill-treating her and claimed that she and her sister had to endure all the pain and sufferings since her employer was holding powerful posts all through.
