V.K. Sasikala, jailed aide of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on Friday filed an application before the Justice A. Arumughaswamy Commission of Inquiry through her lawyers, requesting copies of the testimonies against her by various witnesses. The commission is probing the late CM’s hospitalisation and death. The Commission had summoned her to depose before it.

Sasikala also sought copies of documents submitted as evidence against her, along with details of the Commission’s witnesses.

In her application, she said after the Commission furnishes these details she may be granted 15 days, after which she would prefer to cross-examine the witnesses. Once this is done, she said she would submit a sworn affidavit through her lawyers.

On Friday, Sasikala quoted from a December 21, 2017, summons issued to her by the Commission, in which she was given 15 days to respond to the summons, which stated that some of the witnesses examined by the commission had given evidence against her.

The summons was served on Sasikala by the Assistant Superintendent of the Central Prison at Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara on December 23.

Sasikala contended that details of the evidence against her were not given to her. Under Sections 8 B and C of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, she had a right to be heard to produce evidence in defence, and to cross-examine, she added.
