Salem Corporation revises estimate for re-laying roads

The City Municipal Corporation has revised the estimate for re-laying roads dug for underground drainage system to Rs. 17.99 crore.

Under the Integrated Urban Development Mission 2014-15, the Corporation has proposed to re-lay roads, construct drainage and small culverts for a total length of 157.174 km at a total cost of Rs. 78.49 crore. A resolution was passed in the council meeting on December 31, 2013 and was forwarded to the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration in February, 2014. However, the Corporation was asked to revise the estimate and submit a fresh proposal for getting funds under the scheme.

Under the revised proposal, 27 works are to be taken in the four zones, including drainage facility for 18.369 km and road works for 17.933 km at a total cost of Rs. 17.99 crore. Works to be undertaken in Suramangalam Zone – 5.397 km drainage works and 3.939 km road works at a cost of Rs. 4.37 crore; Hasthampatti Zone – 1.302 km drainage works and 4.858 km road works at a cost of Rs. 4.38 crore; Ammapet Zone – 7.10 km drainage works and 4.094 km road works at a cost of Rs. 4.48 crore, and Kondalampatti Zone – 4.570 km drainage works and 5.042 road works at a cost of Rs. 4.75 crore.

Corporation officials said that the revised proposal would be sent to the Commissionerate for getting approval and obtaining funds under the scheme. They added that additional expenses towards executing the project would be used from the general fund of the Corporation.
