The City Municipal Corporation has intensified its anti-dengue operations by deploying members of women self-help groups along with conservation workers.

To prevent outbreak of dengue and chikungunya, the Corporation has formed 11 special teams to carry out anti-larval activities and create awareness among people in all the 60 wards.

The team comprises 250 women self-help group members, 65 malaria workers, 1,650 conservancy workers, 55 city health nurses and 60 conservancy supervisors.

Solution

The committee visits all residential areas in each ward and carries out anti-larvicidal activity and also pours ‘abate’ solution in fresh water stored in containers.

The repellent would prevent breeding of mosquitoes in fresh water and destroy larvae if present.

The team would also ask residents if they suffer from fever and advise people to keep water-stored containers closed.

Also, the team members were involved in clearing of water in discarded plastic materials, coconut shells, water bottles, tyres and other items in the houses in the area.

The civic body has already requested the people to keep the water storage containers closed and clean the utensils every week.

Stagnation

Also, residents were asked to ensure that water does not stagnate around their houses or near their houses.

Corporation Commissioner K.R. Selvaraj has requested the people to cooperate with the workers when they visit the houses. In case of fever, residents are asked to visit the nearest government hospital immediately.

Officials said that though there is no outbreak of dengue in the Corporation limits, they are taking all precautionary measures to prevent any outbreak.
