‘SAGY scheme to use MPs’ funds for rural development’

The Saansad Adharsh Grama Yojana (SAGY) under which each member of Parliament has adopted a village panchayat in his/her constituency aims at the implementation of all rural development schemes with the help of the funds made available under the MPs Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), according to R. Nanthagopal, Collector of Vellore.

Presiding over the mass contact programmes conducted at Agaramcheri in Madhanur panchayat union in Vellore Lok Sabha constituency and Thandalam in Kaveripakkam panchayat union in Arakkonam Lok Sabha constituency under SAGY on Thursday, Mr. Nanthagopal said that the objectives of the scheme include the holistic development of villages, promotion of healthy and hygienic practices and physical exercise among the people, eradication of unhealthy habits, education for all, promotion of cleanliness, implementation of the child development services, MNREGA Scheme and implementation of MPLADS.

Other aims include nurturing of agriculture-based livelihood schemes , rural industrialisation, special entrepreneurial ventures for the educated rural youth, environment development, provision of basic amenities. B. Senguttuvan, Vellore MP, K. Manivannan, District Revenue Officer and M. Manohar Singh, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency participated in the programme at Agaramcheri. G. Hari, Arakkonam MP and S. Ravi, Arakkonam MLA participated in Thandalam village panchayat programme.
