Marathon to be held in two sections on Sunday

In an attempt to create awareness of protection of girl children, marathon runs will be held here on February 15, according to a press release issued here by Collector Darez Ahamed on Tuesday.

The marathon will be held in two sections - one for a distance of 21.1 km and another for a distance of 10 km.

A total of 1800 persons have registered for these marathons.

People can register their names in the websitewww.perambalur marathon.inor in person at District Backward Classes Welfare office at the collectorate before February 14.

Entrance fee

A sum of Rs 100 will be collected as entrance fee to take part in these marathons. A T-shirt will be given to participants.

Medals will be given to those who finish the runs in time. Certificates will be given to those who complete the run.

Those who registered their names for the runs can get their T-shirts and number from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Those who want to take part in the marathon of 21.1 km have to come at 5 a.m. on February 15 and those who want to take part in 10 km run should come at 5.30 a.m. Late-comers will not be allowed to take part in the run.

The run will begin at district sports ground and go via Palakarai, Sangupettai and old Municipal office on Thuraiyur Road and reach Palayam village and return to the place where it began.

Aid stations will be set up at six places for every two km to give water, sugar, salt water etc. Hundred volunteers will help the participants.

An ambulance will be kept ready.

The police will regulate traffic at the time of the race.
