With random and loose comments made by some Ministers and party functionaries causing embarrassment to the ruling party, the AIADMK leadership has decided to constitute a team of official spokespersons to participate in television programmes.

“Only those who are part of the team shall take part in the TV debatesand explain the stand of the AIADMK as the party’s representatives. The names (of spokespersons) would be released soon. Only after would those in the team participate in media debates on behalf of the party,” a joint statement issued by AIADMK coordinator O. Panneerselvam and co-coordinator Edappadi K. Palaniswami said on Tuesday.

Incidentally, during a party meeting on Monday, there were heated exchanges among senior functionaries over airing of views on internal developments on TV and on social media platforms.

In the wake of the merger of opposing factions and the Election Commission’s decision to de-freeze the ‘two leaves’ symbol, the party is conscious of its image. The latest directive is being seen in this light.
