Election officials seized Rs.21.61 lakh in cash from an individual travelling by a car at Pagalavadi near Thuraiyur, about 35 km from here, on Tuesday.
Sources in the district administration said the vehicle was intercepted during checks and Ravi, a contractor, was found to be carrying the cash. The money was seized as he could not produce documentary evidence.
Rs. 3.5 lakh seized The flying squad and static surveillance team seized cash of Rs. 3.5 lakh in two separate incidents in the Paramakudi Assembly segment on Tuesday. A check of a car near the Parthibanur check post led to the seizure of Rs. 2 lakh from the occupant, who could not account for the cash. In another operation, a team seized Rs. 1.5 lakh from Seeniappan during a vehicle check at Melaperunkarai near Paramakudi.
Gold biscuits seized Seven kg of gold biscuits worth Rs. 2.16 crore were seized from a Chennai-bound Omni bus by a flying squad near Alangudi in Thalainayar on Monday night. A man from Ramanathapuram was arrested and the seized items were handed over to the Customs department.
According to the police, an unclaimed bag with gold biscuits was found in a Chennai-bound omni bus, raising suspicion. However, there were no claimants. Later, interrogations revealed that the bag belonged to Amjad Khan (25) of Chathiram Street in Kottapattinam in Ramanathapuram district.
