Rs. 36 lakh found concealed in vehicle

A police surveillance team appointed by the Election Commission seized Rs.36 lakh from an SUV at a check post in Madam around midnight on Wednesday. The cash was concealed in the doors of the vehicle, which had Karnataka registration. The vehicle has also been seized. Enquiries revealed that A. Syed Mohamed (51), a silk yarn merchant from Kanakapura in Karnataka, was carrying the money after selling yarn near Salem. However, he was not carrying any documents. Mr. Mohamed and four others are being interrogated by the police.
