Romanian dies in hospital

A 46-year-old Romanian, S. Stanculescu Cezar Mugur, the chief officer of a Liberia-flagged merchant vessel, Insomnia, died of cardiac arrest in a private hospital here on Friday.

According to sources, the Romanian was a diabetic and was taking treatment in the hospital since Thursday. He belonged to Constanta in Romania.

He died during midnight and the death was reported to Tuticorin North police in the morning. Inspector Suresh said that post mortem was yet to be performed.

The other crew members of the ship and other witnesses would be enquired and the cargo vessel would be detained in Tuticorin port till investigations were completed, he said.

A case has been registered under Section 174 of Cr.P.C. based on a complaint lodged by Rajesh Kannan of PSTS Logistics, Tuticorin.
