The rift between Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary Vaiko and the party’s propaganda secretary Nanjil Sampath seems to have reached a point of no return with the latter declaring that he did not want the former to attend his daughter’s wedding.
On last Saturday, Mr. Vaiko led an agitation in Nagercoil, the home town of Mr. Sampath, against some alleged “unsavoury remarks” in the social science text book prescribed for Standard IX of the CBSE. But, Mr. Sampath kept away from the protest.
He was one of the DMK old-timers who followed Mr. Vaiko at the time of launch of the MDMK.
As many as nine district secretaries of the DMK threw their weight behind Mr. Vaiko at the time, apart from many former MLAs and local DMK leaders. But, most of them are now back in the DMK.
“They can easily resolve the differences of opinion between them. Mr. Sampath enjoyed enormous freedom in the MDMK, which may not be available for him on other platforms. Mr. Vaiko too should review his own actions,” rued a friend who is close to Mr. Vaiko and Mr. Sampath.
