A few trees which had allegedly been illegally felled near Cherambadi in Pandhalur taluk were seized by revenue officials on Tuesday.

According to official sources, revenue officials in Gudalur had received information that some high-value trees had been felled in a private land at Chappanthodu and they were in the process of being smuggled to Kerala.

Inspection

It led to a surprise inspection by a team of officials headed by Revenue Divisional Officer Vijay Babu.

The officials seized the trees and lodged a complaint with the Cherambadi police stating that though patta had been granted for the land the trees belonged to the government. They cautioned that if trees on such lands are felled the pattas would be cancelled.
