A massive three-day cleaning was taken up all around the Uthirai Street in Srirangam jointly by the sanitary workers of the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation and the Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy temple authorities. “A huge volume of debris had got deposited all along the street and it was too difficult to clear it,” says an official source of the temple. Earthmovers were roped in by the corporation and the work was executed in three days. The deposit of debris was due to a civil work executed in the area.

During her election tour of Thanjavur district, DMK MP Kanimozhi was reminded at a media interaction about her critical stance on actors being deployed in election campaigns. A reporter asked her how she could accept actor Kushboo's campaign then.

Ms. Kanimozhi deftly avoiding the leading question said that Ms. Kushboo was a good politician and one must not see her as just an actor.

To a query on distilleries run by DMK bigwigs, Ms. Kanimozhi refuted that DMK leaders or their nearest family members were running distilleries “directly”. “If you media people know about any such industry tell us and we will inquire and ask them to shut shop,” she said.

She wondered whether the media would pose a similar query to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

“If possible ask her if she will shut down the MIDAS distilleries,” Ms. Kanimozhi retorted.
