Panel of doctors conduct post-mortem; body to be brought to Tirupur for final rites

The body of Sharath Prabhu, a postgraduate medical student from Tamil Nadu, who died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday, was handed over to the family after post-mortem by a medical board at AIIMS on Thursday.

The body was embalmed and placed in a special casket and will be flown to Coimbatore from where it will be taken to Tirupur district . His last rites will be performed on Friday morning.

“A medical board consisting a panel of doctors was formed for to conduct post-mortem. The board will submit its report within a week. The doctors preserved the viscera, stomach, sample of skin and blood for further examination. Viscera and blood will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for special test and on the basis of the report the cause of death will be ascertained,” said a senior police official.

“We are waiting for the reports of the medical board for further action. We are in contact with family members. The family has not raised suspicion on anyone,” said Nupur Prasad, DCP

Sakthi Perumal, former secretary of Delhi Tamil Sangam, who was present at the mortuary, said “He wanted to study in a college located in southern India but he got admission in a college in Delhi. He did not like the city because of pollution and too much crowd. He had also discussed about work pressure to one of his friends.”

Dr. Prabhu completed MBBS from the Government Coimbatore Medical College and joined the MD course after clearing the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test last year. He was a first year student of a postgraduate course of University College of Medical Sciences under Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. On Wednesday, he was found dead in his rented accommodation at Dilshad Garden.

Meanwhile, K. K. S. Krishnaraj, a Supreme Court lawyer, submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh asking the government to set up a special investigation team to probe the death of Sharath Prabhu.

Mr. Krishnaraj was counsel for parents of G. Saravanan, another postgraduate medical student from Tirupur who died under suspicious circumstances in 2016.

Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu O Panneerselvam has extended his condolences to the youth’s family members.
