A court in Sri Lanka on Saturday extended the remand of 15 fishermen to January 6, arrested by naval personnel of the island nation off Dhanushkodi on January 2.

S. Armstrong Fernando, President of Pamban Nesakarangal Trust, said the fishermen were produced in a court today at Kuthalam, which extended their remand.

The fishermen were arrested by Sri Lankan naval personnel on January 2 when they were fishing in the Gulf of Mannar off Dhanushkodi. They are presently lodged in a prison at Neercolumbu, Mr. Fernando said.
