With potential investors of Nanguneri Multi-Product Special Economic Zone facing a lot of hardship in the form of red-tapism and non-cooperation from bureaucrats in the State and at the Centre, it may take some more time for the ambitious projects to develop further.

Speaking to reporters at Nanguneri Multi-Product Special Economic Zone site on Tuesday, president of the Tirunelveli District Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Gunasingh Chelladurai, of the Bell Group of Companies, said the inexplicable delay on the part of State officials in clearing every proposal from the prospective companies will discourage the investors from making investments in the already much-delayed project.

The district-level Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board committee, which had to clear some of the proposals, could not discharge its duty as members of the committee were yet to be nominated by the government.

AMRL International Tech City Limited sources endorsed the views of Mr. Chelladurai saying getting approval from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for any proposal would take a minimum of 15 days.

“Such an agonising delay haunts everybody here as the delay does not stop with the TNEB and it happens in every department, though the bureaucrats claim that they have wiped out red-tapism,” said a top official of AMRL International Tech City Limited promoting the project.
