Differently-abled persons have not been benefited in the recruitment drive carried out by the State government in the last four-and-a-half years and the announcement of reservation of jobs for them in government departments is just an eye-wash, alleged Vaiko, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) general secretary, here on Sunday. In a press release, he said that in the last four-and-a-half year of DMK's rule, over 4.80 lakhs were provided jobs in government departments which meant that at least 14,000 differently-abled persons should have benefited as per the three per cent reservation policy announced by the government.
“In the question and answer column, the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, himself has admitted that 3,169 differently-abled persons have been provided government jobs. If that is so, then the reservation of jobs for differently-abled persons in government is just an eye-wash,” he said.
“This government has failed to handle the issue sympathetically. Differently-abled persons are not seeking concessions, but are fighting for their rights,” he said.
