Remove encroachments

The Ramanathapuram Municipality is not taking enough action to evict encroachments in the town. There are many encroachments in the market near Kottaivasal Pillaiyar Temple.

The traders in the market put up bags of rice, and other commodities on the narrow road, not leaving an inch for pedestrians to pass through. Hundreds of pedestrians pass through this stretch every day.

Rain makes the plight of road users more miserable. Adding to the distress are five flour mills at the fag end of the road.

The flour flying off from the mills pollute the entire area. Roadside temples cause obstruction, leaving not enough space to let people pass in a single file.

request the municipal authorities to take necessary action to free the area from encroachments and bring relief to the public.

G. Nagasamy,

Ramanathapuram

Pensioners’ plight

Pensioners are required to appear at treasuries for mustering. Pensioners who are aged, bedridden and unable to move out are asked to produce life certificate with supporting documents. This cumbersome exercise is unwarranted as all details of the pensioners are available with the treasuries and the banks which disburse pension. Further, in case of demise of a pensioner, it is promptly brought to the knowledge of the treasury by the legal heir for obtaining consequential monetary benefit. Hence, the practice of calling the pensioners for mustering should be given up. The Director of Treasuries and Accounts should issue instructions to the treasuries, thereby alleviating the inconvenience caused to pensioners.

K. Chelliah,

Aundivillai.
